Volunteer type position is suitable for:
  • Adult (18 +)
Duties / Roles / Activities: Hopeful Tails Dog Rescue (HTDR) is a Toronto-based not-for-profit rescue and a registered charity that is committed to ensuring a better and safer life for stray, abandoned and abused companion animals who need a place to call home. Our rescue is foster-based and we have volunteers in many cities around Toronto/GTA. Most of our opportunities can be done virtually and/or from home. HTDR is a small rescue making a big impact.

General Volunteers perform many functions to support our rescue dogs. General Volunteers are sent a request (for a reference check, home visit, transport, etc.) and sign up only when it is convenient for them. The time commitment is approximately 2 hours per week.

Reference Checker
Reference checkers contact a potential Foster's/Adopter's references and complete a reference form which is submitted to one of our Coordinators for their review to ensure that each dog is going to a safe and loving home.

Home Visit Volunteer
Once a Foster/Adopter has had their references checked, a volunteer will conduct a home visit (in person or virtually) to ensure that the home is safe and any potential hazards are identified. Home visits are completed using our rescue’s template and completed forms are forwarded to a Coordinator for review.

Events Volunteer
Running a rescue requires funds to ensure that all dogs receive the medical and training care they need as well as supplies including food, beds and crates. Events such as Adoption Days and fundraising events will require a team of enthusiastic, dedicated volunteers to help run them successfully. If you enjoy people, and dogs, this is the perfect volunteer opportunity for you.

Transport
Volunteers are sometimes required to pick up rescue dogs from airports or road transports, deliver rescue dogs to their foster home, take rescue
