Why you might want to consider taking this opportunity: This volunteer opportunity allows the Lead Volunteer to assist to providing programming that fosters independence and confidence building for participants at Community of Hearts by helping them to gain job skills required to enter the work force. Individuals volunteering with Boxes of Hearts also will assist in making the community a more inclusive place for individuals with developmental disabilities.

You will gain experience in supporting adults with developmental disabilities, leading programming, be a key holder, give back to your community and help Guelph become a more inclusive place.

Volunteer type position is suitable for:
  • Adult (18 +)
Duties / Roles / Activities: The lead volunteer will be supporting Boxes of Hearts participants with the tasks they are required to complete during their shift (making, packaging and selling candy products). The lead volunteer will also be trained, and work towards leading the Boxes of Hearts shift without support of Community of Hearts staff, and supporting other volunteers with their roles.
Sample Tasks: -Assisting participants with dipping products in chocolate
-Assisting participants with packaging products
-Assisting participants with clean up tasks (dishes, mopping, sweeping, etc)
-Assisting participants with selling handmade products in the community with our vendor cart (explaining the program, making change, etc)
-Attend markets and events in the community to provide support
