Headwaters Communities in Action (HCIA) is a citizens group that fosters leadership and action in support of a long-term vision of community well-being for the Headwaters Region. We do this by helping to inform and engage citizens about issues affecting the well-being of our community. By hosting community conversations and inviting people from different sectors and municipalities to work together, we help to coordinate effective responses to shared issues. Community priorities are measured largely by the Community Well-Being Report, and citizen feedback has translated into five pillars of a healthy community (Healthy People, Dynamic Economy, Sustainable Environment, Vibrant Culture and Engaged Citizens) all in conjunction with community assets. With HCIA functioning as a backbone organization, the following projects have evolved as responses to identified priorities, effective partnerships and champions, and available funding: Current HCIA Projects Include: Headwaters Food and Farming Alliance (Food Charter and Farm to School) Citizens of Headwaters for Active Transportation Team (Trails) Community Well-Being Measuring Rural Vitality DC Moves (Supporting our NFP sector) Volunteer Dufferin Headwaters Communities in Action: We're making life better together by building a better quality of life together.
