The Children's Foundation of Guelph and Wellington is a local organization helping local families. Our programs have helped thousands of children that are currently living in challenging family situations. Unfortunately, there are thousands of children and youth living in low-income families in Guelph, Wellington and Dufferin. No matter what their family circumstance – whether it is job loss, divorce, illness or other factors, our focus is on the children. Each child deserves the right to learn, smile and be healthy. Our Food & Friends Program is bringing healthy food to hungry minds. Breakfast, morning meals, snack and lunch programs are offered throughout Dufferin, Wellington and Guelph providing an atmosphere of social inclusion amongst students who may otherwise feel marginalized. Students have decreased disruptive behaviours in the classroom, learn healthy eating habits and build strong social skills. Many children go to school unprepared to learn. Numerous studies have shown that children who are hungry do not perform as well as others in school. The Food & Friends program helps by: • Provide children with a positive start to the day • Improve their learning abilities • Decrease disruptive behaviours in the classroom • Encourage positive social skills • Teach children healthy eating habits The support we offer to the community is made possible by more than 1,000 volunteers that work with the Foundation in one way or another on an annual basis.
