FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

VOLUNTEERS

ORGANIZATIONS

Volunteering is essential for a community to thrive.

Aside from the obvious benefits to organizations who need volunteers to survive and do what they do, and benefits to the clients of those organizations who need their services, there are huge benefits to individuals as well. Volunteering offers us a sense of purpose, belonging, giving back, and contributing positively to society and the common good. It allows us to develop a reciprocal relationship with our community, and to find people with similar interests, priorities and values. All of this contributes to positive mental health.

On a practical level, volunteering opens us up to new experiences, skills, training and networking opportunities that we may not otherwise have, all while giving your time and talents to a cause you care about.

Each opportunity is different. Some organizations require specific qualifications, certifications or a police check before you can volunteer. Check the opportunity details to see what is required. If you gain a qualification, be sure to update your volunteer profile to make sure you get matched with opportunities that are looking for that qualification.

Select "Work from home" in your search filters on the lower left as you browse to find opportunities that offer the flexibility to be done remotely.

Yes! Organizations can now have more than one person associated with the account, allowing different representatives to be the key contact for different opportunities.

Volunteer Dufferin does not presently offer full vetting services or interviewing of candidates. However, through the profile fields on our matching platform, you can select any specific qualifications, certifications and other requirements you have when configuring your opportunities. This provides an initial pre-selection step so that you can find your best match more directly.
